A shepherd's crook is a staff with a hooked end, that's used to hook sheep on the legs or neck. A more formalized version, the crosier is often used by priests in religious services.

The usefulness of this hook in a combat situation, above the standard staff, could, in the hands of a skilled practitioner, not be understated enough.
